“Accordant Zones”  Broward Judicial Complex, Collaboration, Ft Lauderdale, FL – 1993

Five distinct Eco-systems were created for an environmental park based on Florida history and the universal themes of man and nature. The three-acre park combines natural materials and elements indigenous to the area in a functional and artistically intense setting. The sculptural forms include a vine covered 40’ concrete cone inspired by the filtering system used by the Tequesta Indians in making “coontie” starch. A 16’ disc made with random cut Florida oolite limestone weighing 100,000 lbs. and a 16’ diameter sphere created with a technique used by ancient civilizations stand tall in the park. The sphere is flanked at the main entrance to the site with a processional colonnade of Royal Palms and 12’ tall oolite stone columns. A swath of tall grasses brings additional form and content to the environment. Limestone rubble walkways act as seating as well as a lookout pier for visitors when the retention pond fills and irrigates the grasses. A hardwood hammock, palm glade and tropical flora comprise the 5 Eco systems contained in the site.
